In a move that took the cast, crew and fans of the series Eureka by surprise, Syfy announced late Monday that there would be no season 6 for the show. Just four days earlier, Syfy’s pres for programming Mark Stern gave what sounded as a positive message, “Although we do not have a commitment beyond six episodes for the sixth season, we are hopeful that this will not be the end of the franchise.”

This is the extraordinary premise of the highly-anticipated STARZ original drama series, "Torchwood: Miracle Day," produced by BBC Worldwide Productions for STARZ, BBC Cymru Wales and BBC Worldwide. The series will premiere on STARZ July 8 at 10 pm ET/PT.
Today, the network announced that in addition to Torchwood alumni, John Barrowman, Eve Myles, and Kai Owen and new headliners, Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman and Alexa Havins, that the 10-episode, hour-long series will also feature an impressive list of guest stars: Wayne Knight (“Seinfeld,” Jurassic Park), C. Thomas Howell (“Southland,” The Outsiders), Ernie Hudson (“OZ,” Ghostbusters), Nana Visitor (“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”), John DeLancie (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”), Mare Winningham (Mildred Pierce, George Wallace) and Frances Fisher (Titanic, The Lincoln Lawyer).
Additional actors starring in the cult sensation include: Arlene Tur (“Crash,” Eat Pray Love) and Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under,” The Other Woman) who join the cast in an extended guest role. The show's original creator, writer/producer Russell T Davies, serves as executive producer along with BBC Worldwide Productions' SVP Julie Gardner, with Davies also serving as show-runner for "Torchwood: Miracle Day."

Been jonsing for more Jack Harkness? Well, you only have to wait until July 8th! Today STARZ sent out a press release with the premier date and key art for the series. I for one hope it lasts long enough to see the Doctor muck about in my home town!

STARZ announced today that “Torchwood: Miracle Day” will premiere on Friday, July 8th at 10pm ET/PT. The US installment of the BBC smash hit series will star Mekhi Phifer (“ER,” “Lie to Me”), Bill Pullman (Independence Day, The Grudge) and, in an extended guest role, Lauren Ambrose (“Six Feet Under,” The Other Woman) and is currently in production in Los Angeles.
Bill Pullman, who portrays Oswald Danes, a former school teacher and convicted child killer, and Phifer, join “Torchwood” alumni John Barrowman (Capt. Jack Harkness) and Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) in the series. Also joining the cast are Alexa Havins (When in Rome, Fat Girls) as Esther Drummond, a deskbound CIA employee who dreams of active duty and who suddenly finds herself running alongside Jack, Gwen and Rex; and Arlene Tur (“Crash,” Eat Pray Love) as Dr. Vera Juarez, a Washington D.C. surgeon, who finds herself on the frontline of medical care on “Miracle Day” advising the government think-tanks on the best course of action for the world’s population.

In just a short while at Universal Studios in Hollywood, the the magic makers behind compelling experiences for theme parks, museums, events, and other themed entertainment endeavors will take to the stage to honor their own at The Thea Awards
The event, closed to press, is sponsored by The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), an international non-profit association that represents creators, developers, designers and producers of themed entertainment. And unlike traditional awards show, everyone who is 'nomitated' gets the award. There's no winners or loosers.
Some past award recipients were EPCOT for The Classics Award, which usually means the achievement is at least 20 years old and still in operation, The Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood for for Attraction and The Newseum for Museum.
This year some awards recipients include; The Wizarding World of Harry Potter for New Theme Park Land, the The Exploratorium in San Francisco for The Classic Award and of course, near and dear to this Geek's heart, the Flynn Lives ARG created by 42 Entertainment for Outstanding Achievement.
